Breakdown

  • Horizon Zero Dawn is leaving PlayStation Plus on May 21, 2024.
  • The game's removal has fueled rumors about its remastered version on PlayStation 5.
  • Some fans are excited for the remastered version, while others think of it as a waste of resources.

Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, one of PlayStation’s most popular exclusive titles, is set to be removed from PlayStation Plus. A Reddit user, u/Melodic_Cake_3344, found out that the game would leave PS Plus on May 21, 2024; other media outlets further confirmed this.

Horizon Zero Dawn is not the only PlayStation game being removed; 25 other games, including six Final Fantasy titles, will follow in Zero Dawn’s footsteps. Sony’s decision to pull one of the biggest first-party games from PS Plus has aided an already-spread rumour about a remastered version of the game on PS5.

Some fans speculate that they have seen this trend before; the last time Sony did something like this was back in 2023 when they removed Spider-Man from PS Plus, and five months later, the game’s PS 5 sequel, Spider-Man 2, was released.

Probably they will create a remaster like Spider-Man with some graphic changes to charge full price for a 7 years old game only in digital distribution,” theorised a Reddit user.

Horizon Zero Dawn has sold over 20 million copies across PS4 and PC. If we see a remastered version of the game, this number is surely going up. Some fans are very excited about this remastered version, while others think it isn’t wise of Sony to go forward with a remastered version of the game since it already has good graphics and a sequel.

However, Sony probably wants to add more reasons for people to purchase games on the PlayStation 5 as it is entering the latter half of its lifespan but still lacks too many solid exclusive titles. Furthermore, we've been told not to expect too many PlayStation 5 exclusives this year.

Horizon Zero Dawn leaving PlayStation Plus is a big deal, but who knows what Sony has in store for us? There could be exciting things coming our way. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what Sony is going to do with this much-loved game.
